Starting off together in 1983 in Los Angeles, punk rock group NOFX has now relocated to San Francisco. A punk band that has been labeled as skate punk, melodic hardcore and ska punk, NOFX writes songs with plenty of social and political consciousness. Several of their songs are under one minute long with their longest being an eighteen minute opus. The band has cited influences on their music like SNFU, The Dickies, Sex Pistols, and Bad Religion.
Their 1994 album “Punk in Drublic” brought them some notoriety and album sales. Their career was helped by the interest in punk music in the 90s. Unlike many of their punk colleagues NOFX has never signed to a major record label. Over the course of their career they have released 11 albums and sold over 6 million albums worldwide. This makes them one of the most successful independent bands of all time. That is not surprising as their two shows this week at Metropolis are sold out.
