For fans of Hatebreed and Kingdom of Sorrow the name is familiar. Jamey Jasta is a member (vocalist) of both of those metal bands. Now he’s gone solo. Though saying that this is a solo album is a little stretching of the truth as he has surrounded himself by plenty of other musicians. Besides the usual band a solo artist uses Jasta has collaborated with guitar virtuoso Zakk Wylde, Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying, pro skater Mike Vallely, Philip Labonte of All That Remains, and Randy Blythe and Mark Morton of Lamb of God. Hopefully they weren’t all in the studio together as it must have made for a tight squeeze. While there are subtle differences in his solo work as compared to his group efforts, Jasta is not looking to reinvent the wheel. For the most part this is a straightforward headbangers’ album. The fat has all been trimmed off and it is full throttle forward with plenty of melodic moments still to be found. My favourite tracks on the album are “The Fearless Must Endure” and “Nothing They Say”. Jasta’s vocals are quite kickass throughout.
