The inhabitants of Mystic Falls are living with a bunch of immortal creatures and magical beings running around causing troubles. Brothers Stefan (played by Paul Wesley) and Damon (played by Ian Somerhalder) are vampires and so is the evil Katherine (played by Nina Dobrev), who is back looking to cause more trouble. Katherine is trouble not only because of her nature, but because she looks exactly like Stefan’s human girlfriend Elena (played by Nina Dobrev). Then there is a werewolf family, the Lockwoods – Tyler (played by Michael Trevino) and his uncle Mason (played by Taylor Kinney), and even Elena’s best friend, Bonnie (played by Kat Graham), is a witch. This is definitely a crazy town with a lot going on.
Episode 1: The Return: Katherine is back and she is up to her usual evil tricks.
Episode 2: Brave New World: Caroline (played by Candice Accola) wakes up and is shocked by her thirst for blood.
Episode 3: Bad Moon Rising: A full moon reveals the Lockwood family secret.
Episode 4: Memory Lane: Katherine somehow gets out of the tomb and fills Stefan in about what was going on in Mystic Falls in 1864.
Episode 5: Kill or Be Killed: Elena and Stefan continue to fight and Katherine adds another conquest.
Episode 6: Plan B: Everyone in town seems to want the mysterious Moonstone.
Episode 7: Masquerade: Stefan and Damon use the cover of a masquerade ball to hide their plot to kill Katherine.
Episode 8: Rose: Bonnie uses her powers in order to find out where Elena, who has been kidnapped by a vampire, is.
Episode 9: Katerina: Elena looks into Katherine’s past and Damon and Rose (played by Lauren Cohan) team up to try and find Klaus (played by Joseph Morgan).
Episode 10: The Sacrifice: Believing she can save all those she cares about, Elena offers herself up to Klaus.
Episode 11: By the Light of the Moon: Another full moon leads to Caroline having to chain up Tyler and stays by his side during his first transition.
Episode 12: The Descent: A bite by a werewolf on a vampire has deadly results.
Episode 13: Daddy Issues: Jonathan (played by Joe Knezevich) returns to Mystic Falls.
Episode 14: Crying Wolf: Elena and Stefan get away for a romantic weekend. That is, until some werewolves show up.
Episode 15: The Dinner Party: It is learned that to kill an Original you need a special dagger.
Episode 16: The House Guest: Elena, Damon and Stefan take on a dangerous ally.
Episode 17: Know Thy Enemy…: Klaus shows his face finally and he looks like someone they all know.
Episode 18: The Last Dance: A 60s dance is happening at school and everyone goes dressed up, including Klaus.
Episode 19: Klaus: After revealing his true form, Klaus shows that he has powers that no one could have even suspected.
Episode 20: The Last Day: The stress of deciding how to save Elena pits brother against brother.
Episode 21: The Sun Also Rises: Klaus starts the process of becoming a vampire-werewolf hybrid.
Episode 22: As I Lay Dying: Elena tries to offer some comfort to a dying Damon.
