British folk rock band Mumford & Sons’ popularity has exploded over the past year. They appeared on the past Grammy Awards show (they had received two nominations) performing live with Bob Dylan and that brought them onto the radar of North American music fans. They formed in 2007 and now in 2011 they are playing an almost sold out show at the Bell Centre.
Mumford & Sons is made up of Marcus Mumford (vocals, guitars, mandolin, drums), Ben Lovett (vocals, keyboards, accordion, drums), Winston Marshall (vocals, dobro, banjo), and Ted Dwane (vocals, bass, drums, guitar). After releasing their debut EP Love Your Ground then their first full-length album Sigh No More in 2009 in the UK and 2010 in the U.S. After plenty of touring in Ireland they gained a reputation and the album shot up to number two on the Billboard charts.
The band is known for its high octane live shows. The band members all play different instruments and the setlist changes nightly. They have been quoted as saying that they strive for a “lively, inclusive” atmosphere at their shows.
