It has become a twice annually tradition that the Hamilton Bulldogs (farm team of the Montreal Canadiens) venture to Montreal to play a couple of home games. Early this season they played the Binghamton Senators (Ottawa Senators’ farm team) in front of 8,400 fans and lost 4-2. This time they will be playing the St. John’s Ice Dogs (Winnipeg Jets’ farm team). Let’s hope for a win.
Like their parent club, the Bulldogs are struggling this season. They are in 4th place (out of 5 teams) in the North Division and 12th overall in the Western Conference. Only the top 8 teams will make the AHL Calder Cup playoffs. The Bulldogs (24-24-4-1) are 6 points behind the 8th place San Antonio Rampage. In a much better position are the 33-13-5-1 Ice Dogs. They sit in 1st place in the Atlantic Division and also 1st place in the Easter Conference.
This is a chance to bring the entire family to the Bell Centre for a professional hockey game as the ticket prices are much more reasonable (tickets start at $14.00) and there are players you will recognize and even some future NHL stars. On Hamilton keep your eyes on players like Andreas Engqvist (who has played some games for Montreal), the newly acquired in the Hal Gill trade Blake Geoffrion and Frederic St-Denis (who also played for Montreal this season). For St. John’s players to watch out for include Garth Murray (former player for the Montreal Canadiens), Ben Maxwell (former property of the Montreal Canadiens) and goaltender David Aebischer (former player for the Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche).
