Irish pop rock band The Cranberries formed in Limerick in 1989 and shot to super stardom a few years later. Their debut album, Everyone Else is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?, released in 1990, went straight to the top of the charts and sold 5 million copies worldwide. Still young they were ill equipped to handle the probing nature of fame. Lead vocalist Dolores O’Riordan suffered the most going through a sort of nervous breakdown due to all the pressures.
As they became one of the more successful groups of the 90s with the release of their subsequent albums, No Need to Argue, To the Faithful Departed and Bury the Hatchet. Their singles “Linger”, “Dreams”, “Zombie”, “Salvation”, “Ode to My Family”, “Ridiculous Thoughts”, and “Free to Decide” all charted in the Top 40.
The pressures of fame became too much and the band decided to go on hiatus in 2003 to pursue solo careers and start families. Each of the four members went off and did their own thing. In 2011 the band put out a statement saying that they had an announcement to make. The announcement was what every Cranberries fan had hoped for – the band was getting back together to record an album and to tour.
A North American/European tour was booked including a date in Montreal. Once on sale the tickets to the shows sold quickly. In Montreal the show at Metropolis is sold out. Their fans have not forgotten them. On this tour the band will play their best loved songs and some numbers from the band’s recently released album, Roses.
