These three guys from San Francisco disappeared and then reappeared in a big way due to their mega single “Hey, Soul Sister” in 2010. This is their follow up album to all that success. Maybe the pressure got to them but this is not the strongest of albums. For instance, on two songs they have blatantly ripped off two well-known established artists. “This’ll Be My Year” is totally Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and “50 Ways to Say Goodbye” is Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover”. It is like they remade popular movies and I’m not sure it works with music to reinterpret songs. Moving past those two songs, the album is no doubt filled with catchy songs but it is almost as if they are skeletons. Fun to look at but have no soul. No soul sister to bail them out here.
