Sounding every inch like a girl born in Memphis on Storm & Grace, Lisa Marie Presley has returned to her Americana roots. Produced by Grammy-winner and everyone’s go to producer for these types of albums, T Bone Burnett, the album reminds us of what Lisa-Marie was at the beginning of her music career. With fewer bells and whistles the album is all about her alto voice, the lyrics and simple musical arrangements. She is also joined on the album by John Mellancamp, Robert Plant (!) and Allison Krauss. The voice is haunting and wonderfully husky plus filled with emotion. As a lyricist she puts it all out there on her third album. Lays herself bare and is quite vulnerable in the process. A window into the life and soul of this lady who has been under the public’s microscope since birth due to the fact that she is Elvis Presley’s daughter. Stand-out tracks include “Weary”, “To Soften the Blows”, “Un-Break”, and “Close to the Edge”. Due to the difference in her sound I hope long-time fans give it a chance.
