Jane Bingum (played by Brooke Elliott) is a woman who is living two lives. She was Deb (played by Brooke Dòrsay), an aspiring actress/model, who got into a car accident and died. Only she did not go to Heaven or Hell. She ended up in the body of a woman having an operation. Jane Bingum is a brilliant lawyer. Deb is now Jane. Jane is brilliant, but overweight and this is an adjustment for the superficial Deb. The only people who know are her guardian angel Fred (played by Ben Feldman) and Deb’s best friend Stacy (played by April Bowlby). Jane’s career is going well but her personal life is a mess as Deb was engaged to Jane’s co-lawyer, Grayson (played by Jackson Hurst). This show is a good mix of comedy and drama.
Episode 1: Hit and Run: Grayson is in a coma while Jane is working on a case in which she is representing an actor accused of hit-and-run.
Episode 2: False Alarm: Jane agrees to help Grayson plan his wedding while also working on a malpractice suit on behalf of a model who died while getting breast implants.
Episode 3: Dream Big: Grayson is having trouble finding the time meeting Vanessa’s (played by Jaime Ray Newman) father and Fred hires an actress (played by Jennifer Tilly) to play his mom in front of Stacy.
Episode 4: The Wedding: Jane is robbed while picking up the wedding rings and ends up defending the man who robbed her.
Episode 5: Prom: Jane takes on the case of a lesbian couple who are being banned from attending their own prom together and is surprised to find out her surgeon boyfriend Bill (played by Ben Shenkman) is seeing other women.
Episode 6: Closure: Jane is assigned to work at the D.A.`s office for a short period and there she finds out that she was previously in a relationship with her boss.
Episode 7: Mother`s Day: Grayson wants to stop a casino from using pictures of Deb in their ad campaign and Jane’s mom (played by Faith Prince) is arrested after opening the escape slide on a grounded airplane flight.
Episode 8: He Said, She Said: Jane represents a college cheerleader accusing the star quarterback of rape while Kim’s (played by Kate Levering) sister (played by Kathy Griffin) wants her help with her divorce case.
Episode 9: You Bet Your Life: Stacy gets Jane to help a former sorority sister (played by Leslie Grossman) in a lawsuit against a casino while Kim and Parker (played by Josh Stamberg) take on a woman who wants to keep custody of a rare plant.
Episode 10: Toxic: Teri (played by Margaret Cho) is accused of slandering a former high school classmate at a dating seminar and Kim has to defend her or Teri’s mom will lose her house.
Episode 11: Ah, Men: Jane works for Parker’s ex-girlfriend (played by Brandy) in a lawsuit against a life insurance company while Kim defends a pastor who is accused of encouraging his parishioners of shoplifting for charity.
Episode 12: Bride-A-Palooza: Jane takes on the case of a woman injured in a bridal store stampede while Judge Owen (played by Lex Medlin) forces Grayson to try a case using medieval law.
Episode 13: Change of Heart: Jane is working with a man on death row (played by Johnathon Schaech) who wants to give his sister (played by Jamie-Lynn Sigler) his heart while Grayson is defending Stacy against an assault charge.
