The Dreamworks film How to Train Your Dragon featuring Hiccup, a young Viking boy who accidentally meets and then forms a friendship with a dragon he calls Toothless, was a huge hit in 2010. Now Dreamworks has made a live show based on the film featuring immense flying, fire-breathing dragons.
The live show is said to be a combination of Cirque du Soleil, opera and theatre. For those who have seen the hit “Walking With Dinosaurs” show you will also see elements of that in How to Train Your Dragon.
It is a huge traveling show that needs 30 tractor-trailers to haul all the gear and 150-odd crew to construct it all. There are over 23 multi-million dollar dragons in the show. The director of the show, which debut in Australia, Nigel Jamieson has attempted to make a large scale show that is also intimate.
The story behind the show is still of the heartwarming variety. It is still a story of young Viking boy trying to find his place in the world, making a bond with a dragon and trying to convince his elders to change the way they think.
