In literature and then on the small screen Perry Mason became known as the defense lawyer who took on and won cases that seemed unwinnable. Moving from the pages of Erle Stanley Gardner’s novels to television Perry Mason became even more widely known and admired. A lawyer who worked around the clock for his clients, Perry Mason (played by Raymond Burr) dug deeper, asked brilliant questions and was generally relentless in his pursuit of the truth. He was aided in this end by his secretary Della Street (played by Barbara Hale) and private investigator Paul Drake (played by William Hopper).
