The Raveonettes are Dark and Delicious

Indie rock is what this musical duo from Denmark is all about. They use the interesting combination of vocal harmonies over a full frontal assault of guitars. The juxtaposition of the soft and the crunching makes for an interesting sound.  For an extra treat, their songs contain fairly dark lyrics that cover subjects like suicide, murder, drugs, lust, and betrayal.  To show you where their divergent sound comes from they list their influences as The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Everly Brothers and The Velvet Underground.

The Raveonettes released their sixth studio album this year.  Entitled Observator, it is another dark collection of songs.  The inspiration for the album came when Sune Rose Wagner travelled to the US and went on a three day bender filled with drink and drunks.  He was depressed due to the pain he had been feeling after injuring his back and trying to deal with it through self medicating.
