Over on the other side of the pond in 2010 this young Brit had the biggest selling debut album (Lights) ever. She was a huge star and even got to play at Will and Kate’s wedding. You know you’ve made it when, right?? It took a while but finally in 2012 North American radio stations began playing her single “Lights” and it went on to become a big hit over here as well. Now in short order (though it really is two years later) she is releasing her sophomore album. Goulding continues her investigation of the electro folk genre that she began in. Though there definitely is a progression on Halcyon. What you can expect from her songs are great hooks and that unique voice of hers. That voice! It is different from anyone else in the music industry. And the way she uses it to evoke the emotions of her songs is very cool. How it is different from the first album is that it is much darker. It sounds like she went through a tough break up and has now emerged on the other side stronger. The first single off the album is “Anything Could Happen” and it has a great hook. A type of song that once you hear it you’ll find it stuck in your head. Great vocals with a lot of power that I wasn’t aware she possessed. Slow songs, upbeat songs and some dubstep thrown in.
