Beautiful and buff cops, cool gadgets, plenty of gunfights and the at times mesmerizing Hawaiian landscape as a backdrop all add up to a fun television series. This modern version of the long running series (1968-80) is fun and serious at the same time. It stays true to the original with Five-O being a special task force being put together to deal with high profile crime on the islands of Hawaii. It is headed by ex-Navy Seal, Steve McGarrett (played by Alex O’Loughlin) and his team includes Danny Williams (played by Scott Caan), Chin Ho Kelly (played by Daniel Dae Kim) and Kono Kalakaua (played by Grace Park). They all bring something different to the team that makes them a really formidable crime fighting unit. The story that runs throughout is one that involves McGarrett trying to find out who killed his father.
Episode 1: Ha’i’ole (Unbreakable): The team has been disbanded and McGarrett is in jail accused of murdering the Governor (played by Jean Smart).
Episode 2: Ua Lawe Wale (Taken): Lori Weston (played by Lauren German) is assigned to the Five-O by the new Governor Sam Denning (played by Richard T. Jones).
Episode 3: Kame’e (The Hero): Joe White (played by Terry O’Quinn) is back and asks for McGarrett’s help to investigate the death of a Navy Seal that has been classified as a suicide.
Episode 4: Mea Makamae (Treasure): Beachgoers find a severed hand and the Five-O find themselves investigating a case involving a deep sea diver and a secretive dive.
Episode 5: Ma’ema’e (Clean): Internal Affairs investigator Fryer (played by Tom Sizemore) seems to want to see Kono suspended.
Episode 6: Ka Hakaka Maika’i (The Good Fight): The team is investigating a case that involves murder, home invasions, a local charity and MMA.
Episode 7: Ka Iwi Kapu (Sacred Bones): A young couple is murdered while filming a Halloween documentary on a traditional Hawaiian burial site and weirdness ensues.
Episode 8: Lapa’au (Healing): A plane containing a dead DEA agent crashes into the ocean and Five-O’s investigation turns up a link to the exotic medicine industry.
Episode 9: Ike Maka (Identity): A dead body that has been mummified is found in a cache of stolen cars.
Episode 10: Ki’ilua (Deceiver): Wo Fat (played by Mark Dacascos) uses Jenna (played by Larisa Oleynik) as bait to trap McGarrett in North Korea.
Episode 11: Pahele (Trapped): A busload of children are held hostage and a ransom of $80 million in cocaine that Five-O recently seized is demanded.
Episode 12: Alaheo Pav’ole (Gone Forever): Just before Chin Ho’s wedding Fryer returns to work a case with the Five-O.
Episode 13: Ka Ho’oponopono (The Fix): Joe’s continued involvement with Wo Fat really makes people suspicious.
Episode 14: Pu’olo (The Package): Five-O turns to one of the top smugglers in Hawaii after a package is robbed from a delivery truck.
Episode 15: Mai Ka Wa Kahiko (Out of the Past): Danny’s ex-partner (played by Peter Greene) from New York, who Danny’s testimony sent to jail for ten years, is back and wants revenge.
Episode 16: I Hew Pu (The Reckoning): A murder of a woman occurs in the middle of a fund raiser the Governor is hosting.
Episode 17: Kupale (Defender): At a historical reenactment a man dressed as a warrior is murdered and the number one suspect is an environmentalist.
Episode 18: Lekio (Radio): A bomb on the yacht he is broadcasting from kills a famous shock jock (played by Dennis Miller) and the Five-O get some help in the investigation by a former New York City cop (played by James Caan).
Episode 19: Kalele (Faith): Now a Chief, Fryer is involved in a case in which McGarrett’s sister (played by Taryn Manning) is arrested for trying to smuggle $20 million in diamonds.
Episode 20: Ha’alele (Abandoned): Dr. Max Bergman (played by Masi Oka) is sure that the serial killer the Trashman is responsible when a girl turns up murdered.
Episodes 21 + 22: Pa Make Loa (Touch of Death): A smallpox virus seems to have killed a former soldier leading the Five-O to team up with Los Angeles based Special Agents Sam Hanna (played by LL Cool J) and G. Callen (played by Chris O’Donnell) in an attempt to prevent a pandemic.
Episode 23: Ua Hopu (Caught): McGarrett finally captures Wo Fat in Tokyo but when trying to bring him back to the U.S. they are pursued by Yakuza hitmen.
Episode 24: Ua Hale (Death in the Family): Chief Fryer and Max are both shot by someone who later blows up HPD headquarters.
