It’s rare in the day and age that you get two big music stars on the same bill. With the show coming this Friday to the Bell Centre you get two huge names. First off is Mark Knopfler, frontman for the band Dire Straits and second is one of the living legends of music, Bob Dylan. They are touring together and music fans are the better for it.
This is not a Johnny-come-lately relationship either. Way back in 1979 Bob Dylan saw Mark Knopfler play with his band and was so impressed with his guitar playing that he invited him to play on Dylan’s next album. Knopfler then produced and played on Infidels. This is obviously a mutual admiration club.
Both are now in the twilight of their careers and both play the music that they like and not what is expected of them. When Knopfler is on stage do not expect a whack of Dire Straits songs as he is more likely to play his lesser known solo stuff. With Dylan you will have to deal with the fact that the always debatable voice is now 70-years-old. If you can get past that you can expect more “known” songs from him.
