Writer/director/actor Lena Dunham and her new show Girls was one of the most talked about shows on television last season. Twentysomething women living in New York City supply the backdrop of this thirty minute sitcom. What is funny (I guess) is that they have all graduated from college and yet none are what anyone would consider to be successful. Some have jobs, some don’t, some have boyfriends while others are just pining for certain guys. What they all have in common is that they are trying to figure out what they want from life. All this adds up to a delightful and original mixture of humour and poignant moments.
Episode 1: Pilot: 24-year-old Hannah (Lena Dunham – This is 40) is thrown for a loop when her parents cut her off and she is fired from her unpaid internship.
Episode 2: Vagina Panic: Hannah has an STD scare while Jessa (Jemima Kirke) and Marnie (Alison Williams) deal with the intricacies of an appointment at a woman’s clinic.
Episode 3: All Adventurous Women Do: Hannah deals with a college boyfriend, Marnie meets a guy who could be dateable and Jessa finds a job.
Episode 4: Hannah’s Diary: Hannah does not handle a text message from Adam (Adam Driver – Lincoln, J. Edgar) well and Jessa finds her attention wandering while babysitting.
Episode 5: Hard Being Easy: Jessa wants to guarantee she has the final word, Hannah decides to make a play for her boss and Marnie has some worries about her relationship with Charlie (Christopher Abbott – Martha Marcy May Marlene).
Episode 6: The Return: Hannah travels to Michigan for her parents’ 30th anniversary but does not end up spending much time with them.
Episode 7: Welcome to Bushwick a.k.a. The Crackcident: Jessa is stumped about the identity of a mystery texter, Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet – The Kids are Alright) and Ray (Alex Karpovsky) get closer and Hannah finds out things about Marnie and Adam.
Episode 8: Weirdos Need Girlfriends Too: Hannah believes she is becoming more involved in Adam’s life and Jessa and Marnie meet a single guy who is not all that he seems to be.
Episode 9: Leave Me Alone: Being broke, Hannah is forced to take a job at Café Grumpy and Shoshanna starts trying Internet dating.
Episode 10: She Did: Hannah begins to wonder if she really should be with Adam and Jessa hosts a mystery party.
