Much to my surprise this silly looking film starring James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez has gotten better reviews than I thought it would. This led me to checking out the soundtrack. If nothing else you would think that a teen film about spring break would contain good music. The film was scored by the interesting combination of dubstepper supreme Skrillex and the former drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cliff Martinez. What you get is pretty decent stuff indicating that the two might have a future in film scores. For fans of Skrillex you get plenty of new stuff from him. Two of him alone and three collaborations with Martinez. These tracks are quite good in a chill kind of way. On top of the new music you also get previously released tracks by Ellie Goulding (her huge hit from last year “Lights”), Meek Mill, The Black Keys, Nikki Minaj (the woman really is everywhere!) and Gucci Mane. In a hold in the laughter moment, James Franco even raps on the track entitled “Hangin’ With Da Dopeboys”. Silly but somewhat entertaining. It is a very eclectic mix of music.
