An Evening With Oprah

From her early days on local television in Nashville and Cleveland she went on to work on a morning show in Chicago.  After reviving the ratings on that previously almost dead show so much that it became number one in its time slot.  Then AM Chicago became the Oprah Winfrey Show in 1986 and the rest, as they say, is history.

The Oprah Winfrey Show until the mid-90s was a tabloid talk show then it evolved into a more spiritual, self-help format.  The show, which she ended in 2011, did hugely well in regards to ratings.  Many hang on every word out of this woman’s mouth.  The power she wields is incredible.

In 2011 Oprah ended her popular daytime chat show to start her own network.  It has general entertainment type shows that involve original shows, films, specials, and documentaries. OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) began and it has been struggling ratings-wise since the beginning.

Television is not the only entertainment medium in which Oprah has involved herself in.  Since 2004 she has published her own magazine called O, The Oprah Magazine.  Since 2006 she has also had a channel on XM Satellite called Oprah Radio in which she and best friend Gayle King host a show called Oprah & Friends. She has also acted in films like The Color Purple, Beloved and The Women of Brewster Place.
