Geoff Tate Brings One of the Two Queensryches to Town

It is a little confusing when you have two bands touring under the same name.  The one coming to Montreal to play a show at the Virgin Mobile Corona Theatre is fronted by Geoff Tate.  Tate was the original vocalist for the progressive heavy metal band originally formed in 1982.  The band was quite successful selling 20 million albums worldwide with 6 million being in the United States alone.  All was going fairly well until a fight broke out backstage at a show in 2012 in Brazil.  The band then kicked Tate out of the band and replaced him with another vocalist.  After Tate continued touring under the name as well as most of the original members with Todd La Torre also touring under the Queensryche moniker fans became confused.  It went to court with Tate arguing that he had been wrongfully terminated and it was ruled that Tate could continue using the name until the court date in November 2013.

Geoff Tate has recruited new band members including former Queensryche guitarist Kelly Gray and members of the bands Blue Oyster Cult, Whitesnake, AC/DC, and Quiet Riot.  This collection recently released an album called Frequency Unkown.  After playing a few live shows together this new band has gelled nicely.  Onstage they obviously enjoy playing together and deliver a tight show.
