This is the season we all knew was coming but were trying to avoid. Dexter’s (played by Michael C. Hall) sister Debra (played by Jennifer Carpenter) sees him commit one of his kills. Our favourite serial killer’s secret is out and to the person he is closest to. What is he going to do? How is Debra going to deal with the knowledge that her brother is a serial killer? It finally seems like all the balls that Dexter has been juggling are going to come crashing down on him.
Episode 1: Are You…?: Both Debra and Dexter do not know how to deal with her seeing him perform a kill. Next step is to cover up what Dexter has done.
Episode 2: Sunshine and Frosty Swirl: Miami Metro Police are dealing with a convicted murderer who now claims to want to divulge where he buried his bodies. Debra is sure she can stop Dexter from committing any more murders by watching him every moment of the day.
Episode 3: Buck the System: A high up member of the Ukrainian mob (played by Ray Stevenson) wants revenge on Dexter for a kill of one of their own. Quinn starts dating Nadia (played by Katia Winter), a stripper at the bar run by the Ukrainian mob.
Episode 4: Run: Dexter finds himself in the middle of a life or death game of cat and mouse. Debra is not doing well mentally after Miami Metro captures a deadly killer.
Episode 5: Swim Deep: Dexter has to try and figure why and by whom Louis (played by Josh Cooke) was killed on his boat. The former girlfriend/accomplice of Wayne Randall, Hannah McKay (played by Yvonne Strahovski), has a secret or two of her own.
Episode 6: Do the Wrong Thing: Dexter finds himself being drawn more and more to Hannah. Debra starts a relationship with criminal writer, Sal Price (played by Santiago Cabrera), a man who wants to write about Hannah.
Episode 7: Chemistry: Dexter and Hannah grow close. Sal Price uncovers that they are seeing each other and uses that information to get an exclusive with Hannah.
Episode 8: Argentina: Dexter tries to keep his relationship with Hannah a secret from Debra. When Astor (played by Christina Robinson), Cody (played by Preston Bailey) and Harrison (played by Evan George Kruntchev) come to stay with Dexter and that puts a crimp in his plans.
Episode 9: Helter Skelter: Dexter’s mind keeps wandering to the fact that Isaak is still out there and wants him dead. Miami Metro is dealing with a case involving a Phantom Arsonist.
Episode 10: The Dark…Whatever: Hannah’s father (played by Jim Beaver) comes for a surprise visit and wants to repair his relationship with his daughter. Quinn makes a rash decision to keep Nadia safe.
Episode 11: Do You See What I See?: It is almost Christmas and Dexter is having trouble keeping his relationship with Hannah and with his sister smooth. Dexter finds out that the man who ordered the killing of his mother has been released from prison.
Episode 12: Surprise, Motherf*#ker!: LaGuerta (played by Lauren Velez) is very close to uncovering everything about Dexter and being able to prove it. Dexter will do anything to protect the life he has built for himself.
