For all you British television fanatics out there you already are familiar with Inspector Morse (played by Shaun Evans). For those who aren’t then let me tell you that Inspector Morse is an constable with the Oxford police and more succinctly the CID. He is on his way towards becoming the man we know later. Like most British productions the costumes are stunning and the cinematography is above average. This gives the television show the feeling and look of a film. In all truth, don’t in any way expect your typical television show. It is really a series of five movies linked together by the lead character. A focus on detective work and murder.
Episode 1: Pilot: It is 1965 and Endeavour Morse is about to throw in the towel in regards to his career. Just when he is about to go on to something else a young girl’s body turns up. Though his superiors don’t really understand or even like his methods it is no matter to Morse as he goes through suspects methodically one by one using his superior skills of deduction.
Episode 2: Girl: Morse has gained plenty of confidence due to his recent success as an investigator. His boss, Chief Superintendent Bright (played by Anton Lesser), is not very fond of or patient with his young investigator. Morse is working on a case involving a young woman who died of a believed heart attack. The more he investigates the more bodies begin to turn up.
Episode 3: Fugue: Inside a train car the body of an unfaithful wife is discovered. Clues point to murder by someone of superior intelligence. Serial killer specialist Dr. Daniel Cronin (played by Geoffrey Streatfield) is brought in to work on the case. Soon enough Morse himself is on the list of potential targets.
Episode 4: Rocket: While Princess Margaret is visiting a munitions factory a body turns up. The owners of the factory want the case closed as soon as possible to quiet any and all rumours. A former classmate (played by Maimie McCoy) who had a crush on Morse works at the factory. An unsolved murder from twelve years ago seems to have some relevance to the present case.
Episode 5: Home: A hit-and-run case turns out to be anything but simple. Morse and Thursday (played by Sara Vickers) investigation uncovers a link to the university. Through the course of the investigation Morse finds himself in contact with an underworld figure he has spent much time avoiding. Due to his father’s illness, Morse has to return to his hometown.
