The chemistry in this one between the cast members explodes off the screen from the very first episodes. They hit the ground running. It is fast becoming one of my favourite series with all the smart and realistic character development, tight direction and clever writing. I’ve come to expect no less from BBC Television. Though it must be pointed out that the series is made right here in Canada. Lead actress Tatiana Maslany has the difficult job of playing three women who look identical but are completely different in personality. The big risk is taken of creating a central character (Sarah) that is not very likeable and yet still have fans tune in and care what is going to happen week after week. Tricky yet they demonstrate that it is doable.
Episode 1: Natural Selection: Sarah (played by Tatiana Maslany) sees the killing of a woman who in looks is identical to herself. Seeing an opportunity Sarah steals the dead woman’s identity.
Episode 2: Instinct: Sarah seems to have painted herself into a corner but still continues to pretend that she is Beth. She is soon pursued by a killer and needs some answers.
Episode 3: Variation Under Nature: Sarah uncovers the fact that she is a clone. So she plans to get the money and skip town, but this becomes impossible when the body she has buried turns up.
Episode 4: Effects of External Conditions: Sarah is getting closer to the killer though this puts in jeopardy her cop con. Her reunion with Kira (played by Skyler Wexler) is in jeopardy.
Episode 5: Conditions of Existence: Sarah begins to suspect Paul (played by Dylan Bruce) when it becomes apparent that the Orphans are part of an experiment. Allison’s (played by Tatiana Maslany) paranoia starts to cause problems.
Episode 6: Variations Under Domestication: Sarah has to figure out who to trust her secret with. The worlds of Sarah, Beth and Allison begin to mesh.
Episode 7: Parts Developed in an Unusual Manner: Sarah is left to work on the conspiracy alone when Paul disappears. Paul no longer trusts Sarah as he finds out that she has kept secrets from him.
Episode 8: Entangled Bank: Sarah has to decide on her next move when the Orphans are set against one another. Allison strikes back at who she thinks is her monitor and could pay a large price.
Episode 9: Unconscious Selection: Kira’s life has been threatened and Sarah wants revenge. Dr. Leekie (played by Matt Frewer) makes her think twice about it.
Episode 10: Endless Forms Most Beautiful: The Orphans have to decide whether to form an alliance with their creators. Art’s (played by Kevin Hanchard) actions might stop Sarah from getting Helena (played by Tatiana Maslany) back sane.
