There are so many television programs on so many different stations (never mind Netflix now jumping into the television program game) that some are bound to slip through the cracks as there are only so many hours in the day and so much that your PVR can record. Hell on Wheels is probably one of those that slipped went by unnoticed by many and thank God for DVD or blu-rays which you can purchase and watch these television programs at your own leisure.
The show is a period piece that brings us back to the late 1800s in the United States. It starts in the 1860s when the Union Pacific Railroad was setting about constructing a railroad westward called the Transcontinental Railroad. Former Confederate soldier and slaveholder Cullen Bohannan (played by Anson Mount) is seeking revenge and will go to lengths to satisfy this urge. His quest to get back at those he feels have wronged him brings him in contact with the Transcontinental Railroad and that is where our story begins.
Episode 1: Viva La Mexico: Lily (played by Dominique McElligott) has much power within the Union Pacific Railroad and with Durant (played by Colm Meany) they push forward the construction. Cullen has to deal with his decisions.
Episode 2: Durant, Nebraska: After a horrific crime Elam (played by Common) and Lily find themselves working together for justice. Durant faces a threat to his rolling city.
Episode 3: Slaughterhouse: Lily and Elam try to deal with the mess they have made. Cullen tries his best to keep order.
Episode 4: Scabs: There is a murder in the rolling city. Cullen has to try and figure out who the killer is.
Episode 5: The Railroad Job: While Cullen tries to remain legit his former colleagues don’t see things the same way. Hawkins (played by Ryan Robbins) and his gang arrive with ideas of robbing the payroll.
Episode 6: Purged Away With Blood: Durant is pushed to the limit in his fight for the railroad and his own life. Cullen fights for an old friend who has drifted off in life.
Episode 7: The White Spirit: Elam maps out some plans for the future. After an awful occurrence, Lily and Cullen try to keep the peace within Hell on Wheels.
Episode 8: The Lord’s Day: Eva (played by Robin McLeavy) finds herself in the middle of Elam and Mr. Toole (played by Duncan Ollerenshaw). A new arrival at Hell on Wheels causes chaos.
Episode 9: Blood Moon: The settlers learn of a planned attack by a violent Sioux tribe. Ruth (played by Kasha Kropinski) baptises her baby then afterwards Sean (played by Ben Esler) lets his feelings show.
Episode 10: Blood Moon Rising: In order to fight off the invaders, Cullen has to unite the inhabitants of Hell on Wheels. Mickey (played by Phil Burke) does the eulogy at Toole’s funeral.
