Wiz Khalifa & A$AP Rocky – A Package Deal

An evening that will make fans of rap music very excited in that two of the bigger names are on the same bill.  Rapper Wiz Khalifa off his major label debut Rolling Paper had a massive hit with “Black and Yellow” and smaller hits with “Roll Up” and “No Sleep”.  On the first album Wiz Khalifa did not hide his love for weed. The boy always seemed to be in the process of smoking or rolling a joint.  His songs are filled with a very old tired formula of drugs, money and ho’s.  Wiz Khalifa has the skills and the vocals but his songs do not sound any different from many of the typical rap/hip hop artists out there.

As for A$AP Rocky as a performer he is quite charismatic.  Things move fast in today’s music industry. Bands or artists do not have to tour in small clubs or as opening acts for years before they gain commercial success. Because of technology artists are now releasing their own music digitally (cheaply) and becoming hits right off the hop. A$ap Rocky is one of those types of acts. In 2011 he released a mixtape and now in 2013 he is opening for mega-star Rihanna on her latest world tour playing to tens of thousands of people at every stop. His raps are filled with equal parts bravado and small town Midwest sensibilities. Moments of he’s young, hot and rich and he knows it followed by some humble pie. He is a guy who not easily figured out and that usually leads to interesting songs. Unlike many who fall on their faces A$ap Rocky demonstrates that he is buzz worthy and an artist to keep our eyes and ears on in the future.
