Kings of Leon continues to be a family affair with Matthew, Caleb, Jared and Nathan Followill continuing forward after a little bump in their musical road. After some canceled shows they got back together to write then record this their sixth studio album at their own studio in Nashville. If you are a fan of the band then this is exactly the style of music you would expect from the Followill brothers. The lyrics are more mature and the music is more melodic though it can be chalked up to the maturation process that most musicians go through. A multi-purpose type album that you can put on for background music and also the type you can really immerse yourself into for a serious listening session. With great guitar work and pounding drum playing there are a couple of really signature sounding Kings of Leon songs. The first single “Supersoaker” is a perfect example of just that. Other songs do show their willingness to search and experiment. They are doing and making the kind of music that makes them happy as a band. Some are quite haunting (“Beautiful War”) while others are a lot more edgy (“Rock City”). Will be of interest to fans of straight forward rock music.
