The Smurfs: The Legend of Smurfy Hollow

Blink and you’ll miss it. Though being only just over twenty minutes there is no chance of the young watchers getting bored or restless.

Like every year for the past eight years Brainy Smurf (Fred Armison – from television’s Saturday Night Live) has won the Smurfberry Hunt.  This is much to Gutsy Smurf’s (Alan Cumming – from television’s The Good Wife) chagrin.  On this the ninth year of the hunt Gutsy is determined to find out how Brainy wins and use that to gain victory himself.

Following Brainy as he goes into Smurfy Hollow, Gutsy sees Brainy locate a huge Smurfberry patch and realizes that is how he wins every year.  Aiming to teach his friend a lesson Gutsy uses the spooky legend of the Headless Horseman to drive Brainy out of the Hollow.  While fleeing Brainy falls into one of Gargamel’s (Hank Azaria – The Simpsons Movie, Love & Other Drugs) traps.  Now it is going to be up to Gutsy and Smurfette (Melissa Sturm – Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Hotel Transylvania) to save their friend.

If you are a fan of the older cartoons rather than the new CGI then you’ll like the look and nature of this short film.  Using the well-known legend of Sleepy Hollow the story has been adapted to the Smurfs. It is cute and short with some funny Gargamel moments.  Nothing more, nothing less.
