If you are wondering what the future of the Montreal Canadiens is going to look like then you just have to take in a Hamilton Bulldogs game. In what has become a bi-annual tradition the Bulldogs will be playing a home game in Montreal at the Bell Centre so fans here can see the prospects for the NHL side.
Several players on the Hamilton side will already be familiar to Montreal fans. Louis Leblanc, Jarred Tinordi, Nathan Beaulieu, Mike Blunden, Gabriel Dumont, Martin St. Pierre, and Patrick Holland have all spent time with the big club. Other players to watch include steady defenseman (he was up with Montreal earlier this season, but did not see any action) Greg Pateryn, offensive defenseman Darren Dietz, left winger Justin Courtnall (nephew of former Hab, Russ Courtnall), tough guy and former NHLer Nick Tarnasky, and goaltending prospect Dustin Tokarski. Hamilton has had a tough start to the season and are presently out of the playoff picture in 12th place in the West Conference with a 6-7-0-3 record.
The Syracuse Crunch, the farm team of the Tampa Bay Lightning, are in 5th place in the East Conference with a 9-4-1-1 record. They have a couple of players to watch as well such as offensive defenseman Philip-Michael Devos, goaltender and former Hamilton Bulldogs property Cedrick Desjardins and forward and captain Mike Angelidis.
NHL hockey games have become too pricey for most families to go to all together. The AHL games are, however, much more reasonable and the kids will enjoy the high skill and atmosphere almost as much as they would an NHL contest.
