After it was a film The Full Monty moved on to Broadway and had a very successful run there from 2000 until 2002. So successful it was nominated for 10 Tony Awards. Nothing to sneeze at! Finally here in Montreal you can find out what all the praise is about.
The story is about a group of unemployed and unhappy steelworkers who seemingly have no options when it comes to finding jobs or figuring out how to support themselves. Desperate the men come up with the idea of performing a strip show. Hesitant at first for obvious reasons they unexpectedly develop a tight camaraderie, self-esteem and hope for the future. Developing the show and performing it bring this group of men returns they could have never predicted. While addressing issues like parenthood, friendship, self-awareness, and body image the play is funny, poignant and heartwarming.
The musical features music and lyrics by David Yazbeck (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Bombay Dreams) based on the book by Terrence McNally (Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Catch Me If You Can). Now it is directed by Calli Armstrong and produced by Beautiful City Theatre.
