Elton John & his Band – A Madman From Across the Water

Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight this piano playing music man transformed himself into Elton John.  The singer-songwriter-pianist-composer is one of the most famous musician working today.  Popular the world round, Elton John has been making music since the release of his first album, Empty sky, in 1969.  Spanning his 29 solo album releases he has become famous for classic songs like “Bennie and the Jets”, “Candle in the Wind”, “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Gonna Be a Long, Long Time)”, “Your Song”, and “Crocodile Rock”.

Besides writing music with his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin, Elton John has also been called upon to write music for films.  His most famous is for the Disney film The Lion King.  The songs “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”, “Hakuna Matata” and “Circle of Life” from the film have become very popular and made even more so when the film was adapted into a Broadway musical.

Due to the popularity of his music Elton John has won many awards over the course of his five decade music career.  He has won an Academy Award, Grammy Awards and even Tony Awards.  Elton John has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Using his celebrity, Elton John has raised millions of dollars for AIDS research.  He has been associated with the charity since the death of friend and fellow musician Freddie Mercury and young friend Ryan White.  Because of his charity work he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998 and has been known as Sir Elton John since.
