Way back in the 1967 these guys got together. As you would suspect they were from Chicago, Illinois. In the beginning that rock band was one that featured a horn section and was concerned with politics and they experimented with their sound. It was only later that they morphed into a soft rock outfit. That is when hit ballad after hit ballad started coming throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Something you might not know is that Chicago is the second most successful (to the Beach Boys) in regards of Billboard chart success. Over the course of their career they have 21 Top Ten singles and 5 number one albums.
The band has gone through a bunch of changes in the lineup over their 44 years together. None more tragic than when lead singer Terry Kath accidentally shot and killed himself in 1978. After his death in the early 80s Peter Cetera became the lead singer of the band and they then became the softer band many are familiar with. A string of hit singles including “Hard to Say I’m Sorry”, “You’re the Inspirations”, “Hard Habit to Break”, and “Love Me Tomorrow”. Cetera left the band in 1985 to be replaced by bassist Jason Scheff (son of Elvis’s bassist).
While their popularity declined in the 1990s the band still continues on and tours frequently. They are a band that everyone fondly remembers for making good music during different points of their lives. Seeing them live, I’m sure it will be a nostalgic night for many.
