The Deluxe Edition features forty minutes of previously unreleased material such as rehearsal footage, interviews, etc. In other words, this is something you will want to buy for your collection without a fear of going wrong.
In the fall of 1992 the hardest to get ticket in the city with tons of hot concerts was those to Bob Dylan’s 30th anniversary concert at Madison Square Garden. A ton of music talent, most of it legendary, gathered at the concert to perform songs by the man who had influenced almost every singer-songwriter.
The songs they chose to cover vary from iconic to obscure. It is interesting to see who chose what. You get performers like John Mellancamp singing “Like a Rolling Stone”, Stevie Wonder singing “Blowin’ in the Wind”, Tracy Chapman singing “The Times They Are A-Changin’”, Neil Young singing “All Along the Watchtower”, Richie Havens singing “Just Like a Woman”, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers singing “Rainy Day Woman #12 & #35”. You also get Sinead O’Connor, George Harrison, Johnny Winter, Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, Johnny and June Cash, Lou Reed, and Eddie Vedder amongst others. You can tell how important this evening was to these stars as they all bring their A games.
Four hours is the length of concert and not for one minute do you feel like it drags. Backing up these performers is a house band consisting of three members of Booker T. & the M.G.’s, guitarist G.E. Smith and Jim Keltner and Anton Fig on drums. With the vastness of his catalogue and the quality of the artists who showed up to celebrate Dylan’s music you really see how much this guy has influenced modern music.
