The celebrity world has changed greatly over the course of the past decade. A combination of technology and media is part of the explanation. Outlets like TMZ, Twitter and the Internet have allowed us previously unthought of access to the lives of celebrities. We are able to track their every move. This access has allowed us the illusion of a deeper insight into the inner workings of celebrity life. As a result of the access we are inundated with celebrity gossip and happenings. Certain celebrities, despite all this, have managed to fly under the radar while others are everywhere. To the point where it is bothersome and they are annoying. As in all facets of life there are winners and there are losers.
Here is a list of celebrities who I consider the most annoying stars on the planet:
10) Taylor Swift: A popular pop country musician who has made a career out of singing her diary. Every guy who has broken her heart has found his way into one of her songs. For years now it has been date, break up, write song, repeat. It has gotten rather tiresome to listen to her self-indulgence over and over. Even though she is now 23-years-old her song still sound like she is in high school. Time to grow up and accept the fact that relationships end.
9) Madonna: She used to be witty and edgy. Plus her music used to be listenable. Now she is just plain odd and annoying. Fighting the inevitable aging process we all undergo has made her seem desperate and silly. While she used to be intelligent it has now denigrated into pompous behaviour.
8) Gwenyth Paltrow: Not only do I think that she is overrated but now she has become so out of touch and filled with attitude that I cannot find anything likable about her. Because she did not like that Vanity Fair was going to run an article about her she went around and tried to get her friends to boycott the magazine. She has also developed a website called Goop that involves so much pompous advice that you might find yourself developing nausea as you read it. Some have claimed that people are mean to her because they are jealous though I counter propose it is because of her claims to be a lifestyle guru while at the same time making people feel bad about their lives. An example of this looking down her nose is summed up in the quote “I would rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a tin.” Proof that the public are no longer on her side is that even when it was announced that her marriage was falling apart that her saying she was “consciously uncoupled” from Coldplay’s Chris Martin no sympathy came her way.
7) Farrah Abraham: Former Teen Mom, Farrah Abraham has gone on to an illustrious post show career that includes pornography. She is desperate for attention and will seemingly go to any lengths to stay in the headlines. A poor role model for her daughter and all women.
6) Shia LaBeouf: His career started off promising and now it just seems like it is falling apart due to his behaviour or misbehaviour off screen. As the years have gone on his behaviour has gotten odder and odder. Substance abuse or a sign of mental illness? A cry for help or a way to stay in the headlines? We don’t know yet so for now we’ll categorize it as annoying. In 2012 his directorial debut, a short film called HowardCantour.com, was premiered at Cannes. It came out shortly afterwards that he had plagerized all the dialogue. He did the right thing and apologized, but then the weird behaviour began with his continuing to apologize without end. Soon he was plagerizing his apologies. Strange. Then he played the victim in all of this and claimed that he would now retire from public life. If anything he did not retire and we began to see more of him. LaBeouf then walked the red carpet of a German film festival with a brown paper bag over his head with the words “I am not famous anymore” written on it. Then he stated it was just meta-modernist art….sigh…
Kim Kardashian: A new kind of celebrity. She is just famous not because of a talent rather because of her lifestyle. An incredible publicity machine behind her she remains in the headlines for no good reason. Uptight, whiny and spoiled are attributes that have made her quite unlikable. The way she has cashed in on her private life is rather sickening. She has sunk down on my list because of the fact that she has recently had a baby girl with fiancé Kanye West (who is also on this list) and seems somewhat occupied with raising the child so she has been in the headlines less.
Miley Cyrus: Twerking, tattoos, marijuana smoking, nudity and continuously sticking her tongue out of her mouth have kept this former Disney child star in the headlines for the past year or two. It is tough growing up in the spotlight but others have definitely handled it better. Seemingly trying to distance herself from her child star image through raunchy videos and crude tweets is not the way to endear yourself to the public. Even if all this bad behaviour is to sell her music it really is stooping too low.
Justin Bieber: Another young star growing up in front of us all, Canadian Justin Bieber started off his career as the young singer who mothers approved of their young daughters loving. He has now transformed into a belligerent, out of control young man who thinks that he can get away with anything. His behaviour is becoming wilder and wilder. Crashing cars, getting into fights, peeing in buckets in hotel kitchens and driving luxury cars wildly are just some tricks of his trade. The idea that acting like a gangster and not the middle class white kid from Ontario that he is certainly is ridiculous. He certainly is wearing out the welcome wagon with many. More tragically is that he is allowing his antics to overshadow his music. Big mistake. We are in the midst of witnessing a star who is falling from grace.
Kanye West: The rapper has been arrogant and angry right out of the gate. There is no denying his talent but he refuses to allow it to speak for him and continuously sabotage his public image. He has waged a continuous war which often has become physical against the paparazzi. While they are intrusive and annoying if he just ignored it they would probably retreat. Plus the guy who claims to hate them has hooked up with a Kardashian, a family who has made millions off their exposure in the media, so it doesn’t ring true. Poor impulse control couple with a huge ego and big mouth does not make for a likable package. He has even compared himself to Jesus. From interrupting Taylor Swift onstage while she was accepting an award during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards to getting caught up in the whole Kardashian clan and their nonsense the guy is almost more famous for what he does off stage than on.
Chris Brown: Where else would this guy be but on the top of this list. He is a convicted woman beater and does not seem to have changed his ways since he got out of jail. His behaviour after beating up his then girlfriend Rihanna has not been indicative of someone who is remorseful or has learned his lesson. He has gone on to be annoying on Twitter, got into club brawls and then gone into rehab for his anger issues only to be told to leave because of misbehaviour then landed himself back in jail for parole violation.
