Putumayo has brought us music samplers from different parts of the world for a time now and they don’t seem to be slowing down in regards to releases. Their latest pays musical homage to the Andes. Using a variety of artists they have introduced us to 21st century folk music from Peru, Bolivia and the area surrounding the Andean mountains. Traditional music from that part of the world will introduce you to sounds and instruments (like the ten-stringed charango) that you are probably not familiar with. You won’t be completely out of your element as they also use modern instrumentation like electric guitars and drums. The diversity of the songs will allow the listener to get a full picture of modern and traditional music from the region as interpreted by artists like Alejo Garcia, Dueto Nocturnal and Marta Gomez.
