Chromeo Keeps Building a Fanbase

P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel – keyboards/talk box) and Dave 1 (David Macklovitch – guitar/vocals) are two Montreal guys who have been bringing electrofunk to the people for a couple of years now.  Important work, no?  Building up a fine reputation they achieved mainstream success with the release in 2007 of their second album, “Fancy Footwork”.   Friends since they were teenagers, they have often been compared to 80s musical acts like Hall & Oates, Sylvester and Klymaxx.  And since their music has been played worldwide it has been used in television commercials and video games.  They have also done remixes for established artists like Feist, Lenny Kravitz and Vampire Weekend.

Patrick and David met in the 90s while attending high school in Montreal. Both were very interested in music and began their careers producing music together. One thing lead to another and they were signed onto Tiga’s label, Turbo, and took on the name Chromeo. They released their first album in 2004 called She’s in Control. Though it was not very successful, DJs around the world played a couple of songs off the album.  After a couple more albums and a hiatus of three years they have gained more and more attention. Chromeo is on the cusp of releasing their fourth album called White Women. This show is bound to feature plenty of new music.
