I went to see Kodaline this past winter in Montreal and LP (her first name is Laura) opened for them. I knew nothing about her before that evening. Not a thing. In a live setting she impressed me with her Bob Dylan looks and intriguing voice. That voice. She has a range that few others can boast and that comes through on her sophomore album, Forever For Now. On the album she combines that great voice with some rather poignant/intimate lyrics and melodic arrangements. With a style all her own it is hard as a reviewer to categorize her sound. But that is a good thing, right? If you were to pin me down I would have to say pop music though that is a rather large and vague category. What I really enjoyed was when she would whistle on certain tracks. Now that might sound lame to you but in this case it really is appropo. The production values are really on in that they are of high quality but settle in the background letting her voice take centre stage. Really a wise choice. Between that laid back vibe and her voice they really are songs that you’ll sing along to. Songs like “Heavenly Light”, “Your Town” and “Salvation” are really good though there is not really a weak track on the album.
