If possible there is an even bigger buzz around the Rogers Cup tennis tournament this year.  The ladies are here in Montreal and that means the circuit’s darling and Montreal native Eugenie Bouchard will be playing in front of her home crowd.  Bouchard has had a great season this year in the WTA making two of the three Grand Slam finals and the finals of the third (Wimbledon).  She is playing great tennis which allows fans here to dream of a local winning the Rogers Cup.  As a result tickets sales, which have always been good, are selling at an even faster pace.  If you hope to attend you have to hurry to buy.

Besides Eugenie Bouchard most of the best female tennis players on the planet will be in Montreal playing in this important hard court tournament.  World number one Serena Williams (U.S.) will be participating along with Na Li (CHN), Maria Sharapova (RUS), Ana Ivanovic (SRB), Victoria Azarenka (BLR), and Petra Kvitova (CZE).  Besides Bouchard other Canadians who have been granted a wildcard into the singles are Sharon Fichman and local favourite Aleksandra Wozniak.  Another highlight is the fact that former great and Rogers Cup winner, Martina Hingis will be in Montreal competing in doubles with her partner Flavia Pannetta (ITA).

Led by tournament spokesman director Denys Arcand, there will be plenty of activities happening on the court and off.  Former world number one and multiple Rogers Cup champion Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario will be inducted into the Rogers Cup Hall of Fame.  The ceremony will take place on the opening night of the tournament, Monday, at a Centre Court tournament.  Aiming for a family atmosphere there will also be inflatable games, mini-tennis, fast serve competition, Rogers celebrity matches, face painting, clowns, and hockey games.

The first weekend (August 1-3) is called Family Weekend where a limited number of free admission passes will be granted on first come, first served basis.  It offers families a chance to watch for free professional tennis players compete during the qualification tournament for a chance to be in the main draw.
