This is the first solo effort in five years from the long-time member of hard rock outfit Kiss, Ace Frehley. He does not stray much from the winning formula he was part of with Kiss. He is not searching or exploring or stretching his music muscles. I guess some might call that lazy while others will defend with the old adage of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Even the eye roll inducing lyrics are there. Just check out “What Every Girl Wants”. Despite these criticisms Space Invader is a whole lot of fun. Rock music with plenty of vim and vigor. As one would expect, the guitars are up front and center on most of the tracks demonstrating that Frehley has not lost any of his touch or skill. You really have a chance to appreciate his signature sound. Fans of the man will be satisfied as he is giving them exactly what they want and expect.
