Formed in Birmingham, England in 1969 Judas Priest went on to become one of the founding fathers of the musical genre we call heavy metal. Besides being metal grandfathers having sold over 45 million albums they are also one of the most successful bands ever of the genre.
Things did not start off great as in the 70s they had a hard time moving albums despite the fact that they were churning out great albums featuring double lead guitars, operatic vocals courtesy of frontman Rob Halford and a total S&M inspired leather and studs look. As the band solidified their membership they learned some important lessons and one was the streamlining of their sound. This lead to their first taste of success in the 80s. Screaming for Vengeance, which was released in 1982, became their most successful album. Songs like “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming”, “Living After Midnight” and “Freewheel Burning” kept them hot.
Despite the fact that their line-up has changed a lot over the 45 years they have been together, the band has remained at the top of the heavy metal mountain. Even lead singer Rob Halford left the band for a time in the 90s to strike out on his own. Now he is back along with Glenn Tipton (guitar), Richie Faulkner (guitar), Ian Hill (bass), and Scott Travis (drums).
