Recorded this fall in their studio, Woodshed Studio, Blue Rodeo has put together some of their favourite Christmas songs in the hopes of the album becoming a staple on your player at Christmas time. The track listing is made up of your traditional Christmas songs like “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “O Come All Ye Faithful”, an original song written by Jim Cuddy entitled “Home to You This Christmas” as well as covers of holiday songs by Merle Haggard, Gordon Lightfoot and Paul Simon. Many of you big Blue Rodeo fans out there are probably wondering what took them so long to release a Christmas album. Maybe they were afraid, as I was when I received yet another Christmas album, that the market was oversaturated and how many versions of the same old Christmas songs do we really need. They should have known they were up to the task of breathing new life into the well worn songs. In Blue Rodeo’s capable and confident hands “O Come All Ye Faithful” is rockier than I have ever heard it done before. A different kind of Christmas album to add to the collection.
