Twenty songs have been created and recorded out of Bob Dylan lyrics left in a desk drawer. That is how good and influential Dylan is. His words now get to be heard as interpreted by an impressive collection of musicians. If you are worried about the relevance of these song lyrics that are almost fifty years old, don’t be. They will still cut to the core such is the timelessness of Dylan. On top of that the talent of the members of the band is nothing to sneeze at. This diverse group of musicians have gotten together to write the music, play together and record the album. Elvis Costello, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Taylor Goldsmith, Joey Bellerose and Marcus Mumford (Mumford & Sons) have come together, I presume, due to their love of all things Dylan and recorded this very unique album. It is not a recreation of the Dylan album rather they have given the songs a new, fresh flavour. A modern take on American folk music is the result of all of this. There are country, rock and gospel flavours that also make appearances. An album that not only Bob Dylan fans can enjoy.
