What’s not to like about a concert that pairs up the voices and different styles of the icon Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga? In this live show they run through nineteen songs and are on stage for a wonderful seventy-two minutes. Fans of both performers must have been thrilled when they announced this would be released.
Taped at Jazz at the Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall at the end of July 2014 the concert aired first on PBS. The two released an album together last year called Cheek to Cheek in which they performed some standards from the Great American Songbook. Songs that have been popular with all ages and for generations.
We see that both are consummate performers and really respect each other and the music they have chosen to sing. Most of the songs are performed together but occasionally one leaves the stage to allow the other to perform a song solo.
It is an interesting combination to see these two performers who were considered la crème de la crème of their different musical generations bring their own interpretations to these standards. Onstage from the first song it is obvious that there is a tremendous amount of chemistry and respect between the two. Each is having the time of their lives with the ultimate beneficiaries being music fans.
