kate pierson guitars and microphonesAfter spending her entire music career (thirty five wonderful years) as one of the four members of the B-52s Kate Pierson is now stepping out front and centre on a solo album. More precisely, though she is doing this solo she is most certainly not alone. Helping her out is plenty of first grade talent. She has hot woman du jour and well-known chandelier swinger Sia on board as executive producer. Together the two have brought forth lots of female strength and independence. For good measure and to make sure that her long time fans are not out of sorts there is also a healthy dose of cosmic stuff. The best of the latter bunch is the track “Bottoms Up”. On that song she has another one of her friends, guitarist Nick Valensi of the Strokes, on as a co-writer. Knowing her audience and staying true to herself there is also a pro LGBT rights song included called “Mister Sister”. Loads of fun! Her voice is up front and centre as it should be. The energy remains high pretty much throughout. Different from most stuff out there today it is verbose, clever and colourful without being too much. It has taken many moons for Kate Pierson to release a solo album and it shows that she will never stray too far from the stuff she has previously done with the B-52s.
