big sean dark sky paradiseSometimes despite the work they have done being of the uneven variety you can sometimes tell when a young musician still has more they can achieve. Kanye’s boy, Big Sean, is still early in his career and there is plenty of time for him to hone his craft to an even sharper point. It won’t come as a surprise to me when he starts churning out top class albums. This is not quite there yet. Some work and tightening up still has to be done. Dark City Paradise is his third album and the best of the lot. There is still room to grow. What he does continue to show is that you cannot pigeonhole him and that he can do a wide variety of things well. Sometimes he gets a little too big for his britches and shows off a little too much. Meaning that he aims higher than he should or he tries to jam too many words into a song and stumbles a little. If you like your album to have plenty of guest then this is perfect for you. Plenty of his pals show up on the album. “Blessings” features guest vocals by Drake, Kanye is on “All Your Fault”, unfortunately Chris Brown shows up on “Play No Games”, and “One Man Can Change the World” sees Kanye back, but this time he brings along John Legend. Hey, for you fans of pop music and female vocalists, Ariana Grande is on the album as well. Stick with him and you’ll be able to brag (when he is considered one of the top rappers in the game) that you were a fan of him when. Like a good wine, Big Sean is getting better with age.
