monster high hauntedMonster High and all its offshoot products all sell like hotcakes.  The toys, clothes, dolls and DVDs all are begged for until parents break down and purchase them.  Kids, especially young girls, eat this stuff up. That brings me to the question of whether it serves any purpose to judge the quality of Monster High DVDs? Do the kids who watch this even care what I think? Me thinks not.  With that in mind here it goes…

For all you parents out there Monster High (story quality and character strength aside) is appropriate for your young ones. The overall message that no matter how different someone is they should not be bullied or treated like they are not part of the collective group is a positive and important one for youngsters to hear over and over.  Every one of the monsters is different and their differences are applauded.  In this feature length episode the ideas of how damaging rumours can be, the importance of working together and using everyone’s different skills to benefit the group.  It does drag on and on but you can be sure that the young ones watching won’t complain.

Spectra Vondergeist (voiced by Erin Fitzgerald) is the gossip columnist at Monster High. She is worried because her juicy news well seems to have run dry. Spectra is desperate for a story as her readers are clamouring for some gossip. Finally she is told that the local werewolves have come down with cases of werefleas. The story is hot, hot, hot but the pressure it puts on Monster High is great. As such she learns a lesson about checking sources before writing anything.

Meanwhile, Draculaura (voiced by Debi Derryberry) believes that she is being haunted. It is Monster High’s ghost, Spectra, who looks into it. The female monsters see Spectra traveling to another dimension and decide to follow her. While in the other dimension they meet River Styxx (voiced by Ashley Peterson). River brings them all to an all-ghost school. The school’s principle Revenant (voiced by Karen Strassman) figures out what is going on and decides to do something to make Spectra stay where she is from. It is up to Spectra and the Monster friends to make things right in the ghost world.
