The Cote St. Luc Dramatic Society Presents Hairspray

hairspray preview2It took a while for the cast to be found and then come together for this production from the Cote St. Luc Dramatic Society.  When it finally did director Anisa Cameron gushes that it was worth the wait as they blew her away even in rehearsals.  The 32 cast members come from a variety of places including the Montreal Gospel Choir and The Jireh Choir.


The story and music of Hairspray is a crowd pleaser.  It tells the tale of Tracy Turnblad, a teenager growing up in Baltimore who dreams of becoming a regular dancer on The Corny Collins Show.  In her attempt to do just that Tracy comes face to face with some of the racial issues that are occurring in her beloved city.  This leads to her joining in the fight against racial segregation during the 1960s.  At its roots it is a story of courage and acceptance – subjects that everyone can relate to and learn from.
