major lazer peace is the missionMajor Lazer, the electro reggae collective, is out with their third album and they have improved on what they were doing previously. Made up of über successful producer Diplo along with DJ Jillionaire and Walshy Fire, Major Lazer has not only gained the attention of fans but peers. This can be judged by the fact that they have major guest appearances by Ariana Grande, 2 Chainz, Pusha T and Ellie Goulding on Peace is the Mission. The nine tracks on the album are all quite different and yet are linked in a subtle way. There is nary a weak track to be found. They do manage the seemingly impossible by making the accepted genres within music seem to disappear as they mix them all up together. The previously released track and first single is “Lean On” and features DJ Snake (from the big hit “Turn Down For What”). You might also recognize a remix of the Ariana Grande collaboration “All My Love” which was on the soundtrack for the most recent Hunger Games film. Most of it can argued to be dancehall while some of it is a lot calmer and slow like the track “Powerful” featuring UK sensation Ellie Goulding and reggae singer Tarrus Riley. It all flows out of your speakers and works its way into your subconsciousness in a way only DJs in full control of their means could make happen.
