Fantasia Film Festival started off being thought of as a festival for fans of animé or horror films. A narrow view by some who don’t know what it is all about. The same type of misconception envelopes Comic-Con. Most think that it is a festival for the geeky fans of sci fi and comic books. In reality that is just a section of the people who attend the yearly Comic-Con Montreal. Comic-Con has become hugely popular because it does not focus on one genre or type of fan. In 2014 over 51,000 attended over the three days of the festival. You don’t get that popular by catering to one niche of fans.
This will be the 7th edition of Comic-Con Montreal and it looks to be bigger and better than what has come before. Over the three days at the Palais de Congrès fans of sci fi, comic books, television, film, and collectibles will gather to check out what is new and touch base or even take a picture with some of their favourites.
On the large exhibition floor there will be a ton of booths that carry toys, comic books, collectibles, and video games. Expect long lines almost everywhere as fans line up to get autographs or photos with actors. Some of these same actors will also participate in Q&A sessions in which their fans get a chance to ask them that question they’ve always wanted to.
The special guests in attendance range from comic book artists like Canadian Darwyn Cooke (Catwoman), Mike Zeck (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Arthur Suydam (The Walking Dead) to big name actors like Billie Piper (Penny Dreadful, Dr. Who), John Barrowman (Torchwood, Dr. Who), Mitch Pileggi (The X-Files), David Ramsey (Arrow), Doug Bradley (Hellraiser), Garrett Wang (Star Trek: Voyager), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones), Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter, Captain America), Joe Flanigan (Stargate Atlantis), Karen Gillian (Guardians of the Galaxy, Dr. Who), Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats), Mark Pellegrino (Lost, Supernatural), Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy), Road Warrior Animal (WWE), Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy, Hellboy), Ron Simmons (WWE), Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy),Scott Wilson (The Walking Dead), and Graham McTavish (Outlander, The Hobbit). The impressive line-up of guests will please fans of many different mediums and genres.
