Formed in 1997 in New York City, Interpol is an indie rock back that has caught the attention of many. So much so that they were chosen to be the opening act on U2’s massive 360˚ summer tour in North America in 2011.
The band, which is now officially a trio – Paul Banks (guitar/vocals), Daniel Kessler (guitar/vocals), Sam Fogarino (drums), emerged out of the sizable post-punk revival in New York around the turn of the century. A pulsating bass is couple with heavy snare and harmonizing guitar work create the sound. Working as a collective rather than individually, each member of the band contributes to the song writing.
Their debut release in 2002 was the critically acclaimed “Turn on the Bright Lights” while their next two albums, “Antics” (2004) and “Our Love to Admire” (2007) brought them commercial success. They released their fourth album, “Interpol”, in the fall of 2010. A short hiatus ended up lasting from 2011 through 2012. Once they got back together with their creative juices flowing a new album, El Pintor, was released last year.
