In an area that has in recent years become quite a hub of activity, for the sixth year in a row Luminothérapie is happening in the Quartier des Spectacles. Right in the Place des Festivals Luminothérapie is like an illuminated playground right in the heart of downtown.
Winter is a hard time for Montrealers as it is cold and blustery and many just tend to huddle inside waiting for the first signs of spring. It is events like Luminothérapie that have to ability to draw us out of our dens to brave the elements. The Quartier des Spectacles brings us Impulse, done by Lateral Office and CS Design, which is a group of seesaws of different sizes. Each seesaw is fitted with lights and a sound system. Once you sit on them they are “activated” and spring to life. Music starts and depending on the angle of the seesaw the colours of the lights change. Both young and old will delight in the changing of light and music that occurs while on them.
Besides the seesaws there will also be video projections appearing on the nine permanent sites in the Quartier des Spectacles. This year two artists, Maotik and Iregular, have produced the projections. The projections are accompanied by music composed by Toronto musician, Mitchell Akiyama.
