These two top ranked light heavyweight boxers are going to go toe to toe once again with a title on the line. WBA, WBO and IBF light heavyweight titles are held by Sergey Kovalev. He is ranked the number one boxer worldwide in his weight category by pretty much anyone who matters. The 32-year-old champion is going to once again take on challenger and local boy, Jean Pascal.
As recently as March of 2015 Kovalev defended his title against Pascal with an eighth-round TKO. Pascal did have some chances against the Russian boxer, but in all honesty Kovalev dominated the match and by the eighth round Pascal was pretty much out on his feet.
Since that fight Pascal, who will have the crowd in his corner at the Bell Centre, has been training with Freddie Roach in an effort to change up his game enough to challenge the title holder nicknamed Krusher. Pascal is a good puncher and athletic, but Kovalev is patient enough with all his experience to counteract whatever is thrown at him. The Russian boxer is so strong that it only takes a few punches for him to destabilize his opponent. Pascal cannot match his power.
It is going to take something special for Pascal to emerge victorious. The oddsmakers are not giving the 33-year-old Pascal much of a chance.
